The DIN connection system screws together, with the regulator threading into the tank valve. DIN connections are rated for higher pressure than most yoke connections, however this difference is insignificant for the majority of recreational divers.
Advantages of diving DIN
In the DIN system, the o-ring is located on the regulator instead of the tank valve. As long as you take good care of your regulator and use a dust cap when the regulator is not attached to a tank, the chances of a leak are much less when compared to yoke connections.
The lack of the large A-clamp and knob makes the DIN regulator a little smaller, lighter and more streamlined than it’s yoke counterpart while at the same time providing a more secure connection due to the captive o-ring seal.
A DIN regulator can easily be adapted to any yoke valve by screwing on a DIN-to-Yoke adapter and since yoke valves are so common, adding one of these inexpensive adapters to your dive tool box will ensure that you can dive practically any scuba tank you can get your hands on!
